The duration of your hair transplant will depend on the number of grafts needed for a full head of hair. Minor procedures may be completed in a matter of 3-4 hours, while larger procedures may last up to 6-7 hours. During a procedure, clients can watch TV, listen to music, or read a magazine. You may also take breaks throughout a hair transplant.

A hair transplant extracts healthy hair follicles from the ‘permanent donor area’ of the scalp. It then places them in a ‘temporary recipient area’ that is losing hair. It is done under local anaesthetic. A surgeon and two technicians, who support the surgeon, perform it.

Patients will spend the first period of the day face-down. A surgeon will remove hair follicles with a microscopic, electric punch. They then spend the second part of the day face up. Cartridge injectors implant extracted follicles into a natural hair pattern in and around their crown, hairline, and temples.

Hair transplants use local anaesthetic. So, clients feel no pain during or after the procedure. The first and second anaesthetic injections may cause slight discomfort. However, this discomfort soon fades. Clients feel no pain after that. Many report their hair transplant procedure to be a relaxing affair.

Hair begins to regrow after a transplant at different stages for different clients. Many will have a short dormant period after their hair transplant. During this time, the hair follicles will rest. They will find nutrition by attaching to the scalp’s blood and nerve supply. Hair follicles will likely shed their hair during this time. Then, new hair will regrow from the follicle bulb. This shedding process is nothing that should cause alarm.

1. Swelling and Redness: Mild swelling and redness around the forehead and transplant area are common. They usually subside within a few days.
2. Itching: You might feel itching in both the donor and recipient areas. Medication or good scalp care can help ease this discomfort.
3. Scabbing and Crusting: Tiny scabs may form on the transplanted areas. They usually heal within 7-10 days.
4. ⁠Temporary Hair Shedding: Known as “shock loss,” this is when transplanted hair falls out before new growth begins. It’s a normal part of the process and is temporary.
5. Pain or Discomfort: Some people may feel mild pain or discomfort in the scalp, which can be managed with prescribed pain relief.
6. ⁠Infection or Scarring: While rare, there is a small risk of infection or scarring. Following post-procedure care instructions reduces this risk significantly.
